The Miguel Labossiere Loizza Aquino Legacy fund is a Peace of Mind Canada program designed to promote self-care, positive mental health and raise awareness surrounding mental health. Peace of Mind Canada realizes that in a world where life is always on the go, we do not always put aside time or resources to take care of ourselves. Loizza Aquino founded Peace of Mind Canada after losing her dear friend Miguel Labossiere to suicide on June 17th, 2015. Miguel found joy in the littlest of things and always wanted to ensure the wellbeing and happiness of others. The program is currently funded to provide at least one grant a week, valued at up to $100 until October 31st, 2020.

Acceptable Uses of Funds From the MLLA LF
What are acceptable uses for the grant?
We know that self-care and positive natal health looks different for everybody.
With that being said, the grant can be used towards healthy and positive activities or items that would be helpful for your mental health. Due to the nature of the individuality of everybody's mental wellness needs, we will be looking at each application on a case-to-case basis.
Acceptable examples include (but are not limited to):
ONE: Workout Equipment
For some people, exercise can be a way to refresh yourself mentally and physically at any point in the day. Many research has shown the positive effects physical activity has on your mental health, and the MLLA team wants to ensure you would have the resources to work out your mind and body. In which the MLLA LF team would purchase the equipment you desire for you through an online retailer (such as Amazon or Walmart), and have it shipped directly to your home. Taxes and shipping costs incurred will be deducted from your grant.
TWO: Self-Care Products
This can include anything that makes you feel good/feel relaxed! Whether it be face masks, a skin care product, bath bombs, or incense, we realize there are luxury-type products that many young people can't afford for themselves, but we would like to provide you with opportunity to have the little things hat make you happy.
THREE: App Subscriptions
There are many apps on the App Store/Google Play Store that require subscriptions to help with relaxation, meditation and overall mindfulness. There are also apps/websites that require subscriptions or fitness and workouts. If there is a specific subscription you desire, make note of it in your application and your grant will be sent to you via electronic gift-card if possible.
FOUR: Virtual Therapy Sessions
Amidst COVID-19 it has been hard for many people to seek professional help. If there is an online service or if you know a therapist, counsellor or psychologist currently taking clients virtually, we would be happy to provide you with the grant to help fund a session with proof of booking.
We are currently working on building a network of mental health professionals that may be able to offer their services at a subsidized cost - we are hoping to have this available in the near future.
FIVE: A "Little" Thing
If something as small as going for a physically-distanced walk with your friends to a local gas station to get some slurpees and candy is your idea of self-care and can help you with your mental health, we are more than happy to provide you with the grant through a gift card or via e-transfer (depending on the nature of your application).
Another example of a "little thing" is getting a Netflix subscription for you to share with friends or family to help make time go by a little faster during these difficult times. Your grant would be sent via electronic Netflix gift card.
Another example of a "little thing" could be buying yourself flowers and chocolate. Showing yourself some love and being your own admirer is definitely an awesome way to show some self-appreciation. Your grant would be sent via e-gift card for your chosen store.
If something that would help you with self-care and your mental health does not fall within this list, please be detailed in your application as to how you would use the funds. In some cases, we may ask you to make the purchases ahead of time and if the idea fits within our guidelines, we will gladly reimburse you.
